Darwin Research Station has carried out a vast range of activities and made remarkable achievements, from research into land and marine lives and ecology to activities more directly related to the conservation of the Islands' nature, including the protection and propagation of then-endangered elephant tortoises, as well as ecological education for the local public and worldwide information transmission concerning the situation on the Islands. Charles Darwin Station attests to harmonious coexistence with the nature on the volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, while combining scientific research on the evolution of life forms on earth and environmental protection. Santa Cruz Highlands: Santa Cruz possesses all of the various life zones present in the archipelago. As you travel through these zones birders are enchanted. Whether it's the bright red feathers of a Vermillion Flycatcher or one of Darwin's Finches almost every bird present in the islands can be found here.Santa Cruz offers excellent opportunities for viewing wild tortoises. Steve & Jenny Devine's Ranch is is one of the places where these magnificent creatures roam free. As you walk through the forest, listen carefully for the sound of heavy foot steps and the sound of shrubs being slowly crushed as the tortoises make their way through the brush to enjoy a meal. Tracking tortoises is not the only exciting activity to be found in the Highlands. (All meals on board)

Day 3: Rabida – Sombrero Chino James Bay or Puerto Egas:
The island is currently uninhabited. James Bay or Puerto Egas on the west coast of Santiago, with a black sand beach and small cliffs of tuff formations, was once colonized by man. The remains of some buildings still stand on the cliff. With a climb, visitors are rewarded to a spectacular view of two craters of tuff cones and the panorama of the bay. An easier walk is to the grottos, basaltic marine caves with open roof, on the littoral. These natural pools are an enchanting place, where sea lions and fur sea lions come to play. Shorebirds are numerous, including 10 species of the Darwin Finches as well as the Galapagos Hawk, lava herons, oystercatchers, whimbrels, semipalmated plovers and wandering tattlers. Lava Lizards, zayapas, red and turquoise blue crabs are everywhere. Galapagos doves are also common in the area. Puerto Egas is the best site in the Archipelago to watch the Galapagos Fur Seal. Visitors may also enjoy snorkeling and swimming. Santiago Island. The most interesting sites to visit are: Buccaneer's Cove, Sullivan Bay, Espumilla Beach and James Bay or Puerto Egas. Buccaneer's Cove: The beach is home to a large number of sea lions. Originally the beach was a place where ships were hauled ashore for careening (cleaning) in the 17th and 18th centuries. Day 4: Bartolome Island, Sullivan Bay
Bartolome Island displays a fantastic landscape of lava formations. Pinnacle Rock, the worn away remnant of a cone composed of spewed ashy particles, is one of the best-known landmarks in the archipelago. Near the base of this tall, eroded pinnacle you can see multi-coloured fish and penguins. If you climb up to the summit of the island you can see the varied volcanic formations of Bartolome and the immense black lava flows on the nearby island of Santiago. The resulting combination of moonlike landscape provides probably the most scenic panorama in the Galapagos Islands. The northern beach is a popular snorkeling site where visitors have the opportunity to swim with fish, sea lions and Galapagos penguins. Much larger animals can be found near the southern beach including stingrays, spotted eagle rays, white-tipped sharks, and black-tipped sharks. (All meals on board)
