Start with a panoramic city tour of Colonial Lima, including a visit to the Main Square, located in the heart of downtown to view the Government Palace, the Town Hall, the Bishop's Palace with its beautiful balconies and the Cathedral of Lima, where you will visit inside. Its outstanding features are the choirstalls, the Churrigueresque Chapel of the Immaculate, the main altar and a Christ made of carved ivory. On the right is the crypt with remains of conqueror Francisco Pizarro. You will pass by the church and convent of San Francisco, considered to be the most important religious monument of Lima, built in 1542 in Baroque style and consecrated in 1673. Your drive through Lima will pass by several Colonial squares, churches and mansions, then you will continue to the Modern Districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, for a glimpse of life in this huge city, as well as its beautiful parks, modern buildings and great ocean views.(B)
Day 3: Lima - Cusco
Very early this morning you will board a flight to the imperial Peruvian city of Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco, mid-morning, transfer to your hotel. Take the remainder of the morning to nap or relax as you adjust to Cusco's high altitude. In the afternoon your guided tour of the Inca Royal City of Cusco starts in the very impressionable Central Square, known as the "Plaza de Armas," which is surrounded by a beautiful stone arcade. In the Plaza is the Cathedral, which is exceptional because of its contrasts of styles. The outside façade is in Renaissance style, in contrast to its Baroque and plateresque style of its interiors. The Church of the Society of Jesus, (commonly known as the Jesuits), is highlighted by its carved stone façade and its large alter carved in cedar, plated in gold. The Covent of Santo Domingo was built above the most important Inca Temple, the Temple of the Sun, or "Koricancha," as it was known in the Inca language Quechua. Gold laminas or sheets covered the original Inca Temple walls. Near the City of Cusco, you will visit the extraordinary Inca Fortress Sacsayhuaman, made up of three gigantic terraces, superimposed in a zigzag form, and surrounded by enormous walls of rock, some of which are up to 300 meters in length.Q'enqo, was a religious centre formed by a singular flowering of calcareous rock. It has underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheatre with a series of stone seats. Puca Pucará or the "Red Fort" was military base made up of stone stairways, terraces, and walls. Nearby is Tambomachay, well known as "Baths of the Incas", a place dedicated to the cult of the water, formed by aqueducts, channels and small cascades worked in the rock. (B)

By minibus you will climb the switchback road up to the ruins of Machu Pichu. "Discovered" in 1911, Machu Pichu, called the Lost City of the Incas, represents the cultural heritage of mankind. It is a stone city constructed by incredibly sophisticated techniques, even in present-day terms. On route visit of Andahuaylillas situated 40 kilometers from Cusco, it is one of the prettiest colonial villages in the region. Large leafed trees and huge old mansions dominate its beautiful Plaza de Armas. However, its principal attraction is its church, San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, proudly called by its inhabitants, the Sistine Chapel of America for its meticulously interior decorated, its baroque wood sculptures, and numerous rich paintings, and murals done in the Cusco School style. We will visit Raqchi: Temple dedicated to Wiracocha, supreme god of the Incas Empire. The temple is built out of sun-dried mud-brick walls and stones. The sides show remains of terraces, bridges, warehouses and cottages and also Pucara: Archaeological complex formed by a pyramidal structure. Here we can observe the first sign of civilized culture in the Peruvian Altiplano. The ruins date from 4,000 B.C. Visit to the Site Museum. We will take lunch in the town of Sicuani. Their inhabitants live on reed islands, and are skilled fishermen, taxidermists, and artisans. They have been able to consolidate, and embed the reed layers one above other, which gives the islands a special balance, and allows them to live on the lake without suffering from accidents. Then Taquile, a firm earth island located on the biggest lake, 35 kilometers from Puno, and offers a scenic and cultural extravaganza. It is an essentially communal island where "Tourism Vivencial" is practiced. That is to say the tourists actively participate in the daily life of the residents.
